The flagship biennial conference of the Nigerian Association for Biblical Studies (NABIS) brings together scholars, students, clergy, and the general public for scholarly paper presentations, panel discussions, keynote addresses, research updates, and professional recognition. The forthcoming NABIS 40th Anniversary Conference, themed “Biblical Covenant: History and Community in the African Context,” will honour the legacy of Rev. Fr. Prof. Vincent Gabriel Nyoyoko. The conference is scheduled to hold from Tuesday, 14th to Friday, 17th July 2026, at Akwa Ibom State University, Obio Akpa Campus.

Call For Nominations – NABIS Professional Fellowship Awards – 2026

As part of activities marking the 40th anniversary of the Nigerian Association for Biblical Studies (NABIS) in 2026, the association invites nominations for its prestigious professional fellowship awards. These awards recognize outstanding biblical scholars and contributors to theological education and leadership across Nigeria.
NABIS Professional Fellowship

This is to inform the general public that the investiture and induction ceremony of the first batch of NABIS professional fellows shall take place during the 2026 conference at Akwa Ibom State University. The Association has approved two categories of national fellowship awards, namely, specialized and honorary.

Specialized Fellowship (FNABIS)

The purpose of the Specialized Fellowship (FNABIS) is to recognize scholars who have attained exceptional academic distinction in the field of biblical studies through teaching, research, and publication. It is a professional award, conferred solely on merit. To be eligible, recipients must be active NABIS members for at least 10 years, hold a doctoral degree (Ph.D., Th.D.) in biblical studies or a closely related field, demonstrate sustained scholarly contribution (minimum of 10 peer-reviewed publications or 2 books), have lectured or supervised at tertiary level for at least 10 years, and have contributed significantly to NABIS conferences, leadership, or publications.

Honorary Fellowship (HFNABIS)

The purpose of the Honorary Fellowship (HFNABIS) is to honor individuals (scholars, clergy, or patrons) who have made outstanding contributions to biblical leadership, theological education, or Christian ministry in Nigeria and beyond. It is honorific, conferred by the recommendation of peers or educational or religious institutions. To be eligible, recipients must be senior pastors, general overseers, bishops, or denominational leaders, patrons or funders of theological education and biblical studies initiatives, retired scholars with substantial service but without doctoral degrees, or distinguished Christian educators or mission leaders.

NABIS fellows have the following privileges:

Use of the post-conferment title FNABIS for the Specialized category and HFNABIS for the Honorary category
Listing on the NABIS Fellows Registry on the website as Life Member.
Priority invitations to conferences, editorial boards, and policy consultations.
Eligibility to mentor and serve as NABIS Resource Persons.
Lifetime conference discounts (subject to review).
They have the responsibility to support and act as ambassadors of NABIS.

N/B: Registration fee of N150,000 for specialized fellow and N500,000 for honorary fellow shall be paid by recipients at least a month before investiture / induction ceremony is held.
